Shayher Group has proposed a massive development for the old Barracks site that will have a major impact on the future of the Bulimba peninsula.

The current development proposal includes no provision of public housing or extra investment in public transport, which will be needed to accommodate the extra residents. In fact the developers’ own traffic modelling says that crucial intersections will be completely gridlocked by 2035 and will require acquisition of surrounding homes to fix.
As well as destroying Tugulawa Park for a four lane road, the proposal also includes the removal of 844 of the 920 trees on the site and a reduction in the required deep planting of established trees from 10% to 5%.
The developer has applied for an 80% reduction in the application fee, which means we stand to lose crucial funds that Bulimba needs to pay for public infrastructure.
This development is indicative of a broader problem with property development across Brisbane. Property developers are given enormous power to maximise profit without concern for affordable housing, public transport or other crucial infrastructure.
