Many community members in Morningside and Cannon Hill are concerned about the speed of cars travelling along Richmond road. In 2018, the Brisbane City Council named Richmond road one of the main speeding hotspots in Brisbane. Since then, not much has changed.
Several residents who live on Richmond Rd have suggested lowering the speed limit along the road and I tend to agree. I believe that at a minimum council should reduce the speed limit on Richmond Rd to 50km/hr. While this won't fix everything it will make the pedestrian crossing safer and generally improve pedestrian safety, while barely impacting travel times. If there is enough community support for this proposal then I would be happy to help circulate a petition for 50km/hr on Richmond Rd to present to Brisbane City Council.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this and hear any other solutions you have to the problem. To have your say come along to our community meeting on the Richmond road side of Keralgerie park at 3pm on Saturday the 22nd of May.
As Brisbane evolves, we have the opportunity to keep it as one of the safest and most livable cities in the world. To do this, we need to ensure that council is doing everything it can to help people effect change in their own neighbourhoods. If we work together we can make our streets safe, for our communities and those that come after us.
